Lord Ganesha Knits by ArtemisiaSynchroma Lord Ganesha Knits by ArtemisiaSynchroma
This is a tattoo design for a friend who's a knitter. I changed Ganesh's traditional axe and rope to scissors and yarn.

I have a black and white version posted too.

Prints are available, contact me at joanna at joannabarnum dot com for details. This is NOT available for re-use as a tattoo design.

<3 Thanks for the DD and all the comments, everyone! I don't have time to respond to each person individually but your feedback is still very much appreciated.

I also have my print available through Etsy now: [link]

Lord Ganesha Knits by ~ArtemisiaSynchroma. An innovative and well thought out change on the usual, done with fantastic skill. ( Suggested by tiganusi and Featured by Pixel-Spotlight )

I didn't realise this was traditional media until I saw the category - this is an amazing painting! And I love that you've drawn Ganesha in a 'dancing' pose - you don't see that very often. :) (The exchange of his usual 'sweets' with a lollipop is adorable. xD)

There's something that I really like about how you've shadowed and highlighted his skin. : O Also, are the 'stains' near the lotus petals (in his hand) meant to be there? I can't tell. > >

Thank you!
There's a statue of Ganesha dancing in a museum near me, and it's so very much how you'd imagine an elephant dancing and swaying, it's delightful... so that was the inspiration. I don't know that I captured his motion nearly as well as the ancient sculpture.
The color around the lotus petals is supposed to be a bit of atmosphere emphasizing the floating petals, I guess.

Cool! This is such a great idea. I'm a knitter (like your friend) and have been trying to think of a really original idea that symbolizes my love for knitting. Although I wouldn't get this tattooed, this gives me inspiration!

I'm not that very knowledgeable about the gods, but if I remember correctly... This is a cute adaptation on the "creative" front (yes, that was a horrible, horrible attempt at a pun) in holding a lolly for children, and scissors and yarn for... creating things. And with enough twisted yarn, Ganesh does still have weapons. Just creatively different ones :3

... Yeah... I'll shut up now...

And the lollipop.

Looks good, I like the creative licence you took, not too far out... still kept it relevant.
Something sweet- bowl of grapes > lollipop.
Something beautiful- the flower > still a flower.
Somethng sharp- the axe > scissors (still sharp)
Cept I dunno what the rope represents. Something strong?
Possibly...
ayway absolutley wonderful tribute to the Ganesh, props!

Why can't people get this tattooed? Just curious. Is it a law, or is it just a request? Because someone wanted to get my drawing tattooed once and I said no but they did it anyways.

Technically it is a violation of the copyright on the part of the tattoo artist if they go through with it without your permission. But I've never heard of someone suing over it, and I don't think I've ever heard of a tattoo artist being concerned about copyright. I see famous artworks getting tattooed all the time without permission.

I think it sucks, though- if they went through the trouble to ask you, you think they'd care enough to not get it done if they know you don't want them to.

I have another design in my gallery that I *am* offering as a tattoo design- I requested in the info that people go through the trouble to buy a $20 set of prints from me (including the black and white linework for the tattoo artist to use as a stencil) if they want to get it done. Someone had the gall to not buy the prints, get the tattoo, and post it as a comment all excited- it was done HORRIBLY. So frustrating.
